The NGB Kitchens currently smell like Christmas because the smell of freshly bakes apples drenched in spices have taken over.

Here at NGB we take your (and our) happiness seriously and know that the festive season can be hard to cope with because of all the treats on offer in the shops. To help you maintain a will of steel, we have come up with possibly the best cake ever created - our spiced apple-y edition.

Imagine the smell of fresh-baked spiced apples and you will begin to get an idea of what is on offer. What's even more exciting is that we have managed to ketofy the humble apple cake recipe so that it doesn't ruin your progress or play havoc with your ketosis.  `The bit that is important is that we have made this treat completely keto by adding chayote as our not so secret ingredient! Check out our information so that you can enjoy this guilt-free treat without getting kicked out of ketosis.

Why Is Spiced Apple Popular At Christmas?

If you have ever had the pleasure of walking around a cold Christmas market then you will probably have enjoyed a hot, spiced apple drink to help warm you up. The aroma that the cinnamon and nutmeg create gives you that festive feeling!

Spiced apple also creates a cozy feel, transporting you to the comfort of your sofa, snuggled up under your winter blankets in front of the fireplace. We all love being cozy as it makes us feel safe and allows us the time we need to decompress after a hard day.

Treats That Support your Keto/Low Sugar Journeys

Let’s not forget that these NGB treats are perfect for anyone on a keto diet as they provide you with the sweet hit you need without filling you with ingredients that stop ketosis. More people are turning to a keto lifestyle because the fundamental principles are simple to follow and are effective for people from all walks of life.

When we started out, both Maya and I followed the keto plan in very different ways and yet we have both enjoyed real success. If you are new to keto and need some help getting started then we are committed to helping you understand your options. Check out our other article about the different types of keto.

What Are These Treats Made From?

When we create a new recipe, we work hard to make use of the best ingredients that support a healthy keto diet. With these stunning Apple-y bites, we selected a few really great products that we want to tell you all about. Check them out below:

  • Chayote: This amazing squash is a great substitute for apple or pear and works brilliantly in a keto diet because it is nutrient-dense and low in calories and carbs. At NGB, we feel that the chayote is a wonder ingredient and gives the texture of apples and pears so that you will be unable to tell the difference when you bite into one of our delicious treats.
  • Almond Flour: When it comes to finding a low-carb option for baking, this ingredient is perfect! Almond flour also has a high-fat content and a decent amount of protein per portion so you are covered perfectly. Baked goods made with a nut flour result in a great texture and have a delicious flavour that will leave you wanting more.
  • Erythritol: We manage to give your treats the sweet kick you have been craving by swapping sugar for erythritol. This sugar alcohol is low in carbs and does not have an impact on your blood sugar so you will remain in ketosis while enjoying a couple of NFB treats.
  • Xanthan Gum: This is a thickening agent that works to combine our ingredients into the type of cake batter you would expect when not on the keto plan. People tend to use it as a way to replace corn starch in a recipe and can be found in the majority of keto food because of its thickening properties. It means that are cakes are still soft but will not crumble at the first sign of a sneeze. They can ben held :) which is important with hand sized treats.
  • Chicory Root Fibre: Another great sweet addition to any bakes! This ingredient does have carbs but there are no net carbs for you to worry about, meaning that you will be able to enjoy your carb intake on other items instead. With very few side effects, this ingredient produces great natural results.
Ingredient Description
Chayote A nutrient-dense and low-calorie squash, serving as a substitute for apples or pears, providing similar texture and flavor to baked treats.

Erythritol A sugar alcohol used as a sugar substitute, imparting sweetness to treats without impacting blood sugar levels, thus suitable for maintaining ketosis.
Xanthan Gum Functions as a thickening agent, ensuring ingredients combine effectively to create cake batter, preventing crumbling and yielding soft yet structurally sound cakes.
Chicory Root Fiber Adds sweetness to baked goods without adding net carbs, allowing for indulgence in treats while managing carb intake for other dietary items.
